In rendering my aunt and uncle homeless, Katrina also deprived their two dogs of homes. So now they've arrived in Seattle to live with Dixie until things return back to normal on the Mississippi coast. Montano is a ~120 lb. English Mastiff who is still a bit of a puppy. Colonel is a youthful, 11-yr-old Catahula Hound with crazy big blue eyes. Puppy drool is sure to be my most frequent accessory for Winter 2006.

So in preparation for my Halloween costume, I headed over to Red Light today and bought me some mini-sized, royal blue coveralls.

Holy shit! What have I been missing? These things are awesome. Comfy. They cinch at the waist. And they give me Vargas-girl style ghetto booty. I think I need to start some Women of Science and Construction calendar to show hot women in coveralls.

I can't bring myself to take them off. Making burritos - not the same without coveralls. Doing laundry - you feel like a real laundry worker with them on. I've even been drinking beer. Apparently they bring out my bitch side.

I’ve been away for a while….

What’s been happening?Well, I’ve been busy at work, but that’s not interesting.

I had my 28th birthday.

On my birthday, Hurricane Katrina hit and a bunch of my family in Biloxi and Ocean Springs lost their homes. Fortunately everyone’s alive and uninjured. And there was a nice write up in the New Yorker by Peter John Boyer, a family friend, when he drove down to Biloxi with my uncle Billy. It gives a good history of Biloxi as well as some insight into my grandfather and my great-grandfather’s history there.

We had a great First Thursday showing, F(r)iction, in September at the studio.

I went home for a week or so to visit with my grandparents who were still stranded up in Birmingham. And I also attended my 10 year high school reunion. Very trippy. All the girls looked a ton better, but damn all the guys got paunchy and hairless. And everyone’s either a lawyer, a commercial real estate developer, a marketer, or a stay at home mom. I’d forgotten that everyone was Republican too and that I couldn’t say the word “fuck” around most of these people.

Anyways, pictures to follow. And hopefully good stories when my alacrity of wit is back in action.

Crap, I'm boring and haven't been posting anything. Stuff has happened in the last month, but I've spent most of my hours either working or sitting on my ass enjoying the new place (and reading Harry Potter).

Summerfeast! The annual shindig was in late July. I cooked two dishes, the success of which was debatable. Remoulade was ai'ite, but I should never ever again attempt to sautee quail while quite inebriated. I ain't no Frank Stitt and I shouldn't pretend to be while sloppy drunk. Everybody else's dishes were delish.
Catherine! Miss Carrigan came to town with her boyfriend. She was the first houseguest to shower in front of the tile people.
Hurt! My aunt had a cocktail party. Stairs without bannisters + precarious Christian Lacroix architectural heels + 3 Cajun martinis = world of hurt. I still have pancake-size (we're talking flapjacks, not those dollar kind) bruises covering my upper legs. HOTT!
Reunion! They posted a survey for our 10 year high school reunion and it's my new favorite form of entertainment. Every girl has ~5 names now that they're all married and the guy from my French class who used to wear the Tweetie Bird shirt now makes swords for a living.

How A Resurrection Really Feels

I'm back after my long journey into hyper-adulthood. I've been lame lame lame lately: spending all my time arguing with my mortgage broker, trying to push for repairs after my insepction, keeping my fingers crossed that I won't be subsisting on a diet of Top Ramen after my forthcoming down payment, and working to help ensure that I have the income to continue on this path called Condo Ownership.
(But it's all worth it for the Tile People. I kneel before the Tile People and I'm already come up with creative, waterproof ways to dress them up for the holidays. )

I haven't had much of a social life unless you count going to Vancouver with my mom or drowning my sorrows with others over Mikey's departure back East. Not even the rock music has drawn me out of my hole. Well, until last night.

The Hold Steady show at the Croc was fucking awesome and more than makes up for a month of languor. They have easily emerged as one of my favorite. bands. ever. They rocked it out and I love them. I love them so much that I want to marry Craig Finn.

Well, that's extreme. But watching Craig Finn's antics last night toally made the show. I realized that if you took Craig Finn what with his nasal cadence of speech, his animated yet slightly femme gesticulations, his penchant for telling jokes about being high, his shit-eating grin and you added five inches in height and switched his occupation: he's totally the crush I haven't been able to shake for a year. Hmm. Maybe I just have thing for guys who don't actually play in a bar band, but have a bar band attitude.

IN SUMMARY: In an effort to counter the reclusive and workaholic tendencies I've been demonstrating lately, I actually went out to several bars on multiple nights this weekend *gasp*.

FRI: Went with Avi to see Bill Moyers at the Paramount and then hit up the bars. I went to the Jade and didn't die from the cherry contained within my drink. I had a vodka drink...and a whiskey drink...and a gin drink....I think I was channeling Chumbawumba.
SAT: After a girly day shopping and brunching with Sally, we hit up a great movie, Off the Map, at the Big Picture. Then we got hooted and hollered at by men in Hummers leaving the Sonics game as we walked over to Re-Bar (Because the surest way to pick up a lady is to scream "nice ass" and honk your horn 50 times).
Saturday night at Re-bar was RETARDED...literally. That was the theme. It was a night of the songs you love to hate. It was totally wrong and hard to dance to. You can't really find a way to look good dancing to Dire Straits, the Ghostbusters theme song, or the other lost gems from 1988. It was worth the ensuing migraine though because we saw a lady rockin' a beehive in a totally non-ironic fashion.
SUN: Sleep, crepes and coffee, ANTM, and homemade pizza. Also I got hit #2 on my website from someone looking up "chicks with dicks". Sweet.
MON: The Naked Hippie was back this morning at the arboretum. Except instead of washing himself in Lake Washingont, he gingerly laid out a newspaper on the ground and proceeded to urinate on it in front of the 520 commuters. I assume it was a demonstration of protest about some policy mentioned in the Times. Or maybe he's just crazy.

I've got the next 5 Fridays off work....I need SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES so I don't spend my days off sleeping late and watching TiVo.

I'm taking suggestions for things to do in my free weekday time. Some ideas...

1) Spend a sunny Friday afternoon on the porch at Agua Verde. Prickly Pear Tunaritas and Tacos de Bacalao.

2) Visit the downtown library. Apparently there a lots of cute boys studying on weekdays, waiting to be hit on.

3) Eat lamb prosciutto at Salumi.

4) Take a ferry to Bainbridge and visit the Bloedel Reserve.

Is there some hidden gem in downtown Seattle that's only open on weekdays I need to check out? Some undiscovered group of people who I'd only discover on weekdays? Please advise.
